(Penance)
A play about trauma, guilt, and forgiveness. Written for five actors.
Developed as a thesis play at the University of the Arts Helsinki.
The play tells the story of a young woman struggling to confront her family about a childhood sexual trauma. Caught between conflicting feelings, fueled by violent fantasies of revenge and a longing for forgiveness, she turns to St Maria Goretti, the patron saint of chastity.
The play was presented as a rehearsed reading at the University of Arts Helsinki. The reading was directed by Tuomas Timonen and performed by actors Julia Högnabba, Emil Grudemo El Hayek, Jan-Christian Söderholm, Mari-Helen Hyvärinen, and Joonas Heikkinen.
